Event Day Timetable
8.30 – 10.30am: Registration – Race Bag Collection/Late entries
11am: Start of the 12km event
11.10am: Start of the 6km event
12km – 2 laps
6km – 1 lap
Cut off Times
All 12km competitors must have completed 1 lap of the course by 12.15pm otherwise they will only be permitted to do the 6km event.
All Tough Guy & Gal Entries
• Every entry regardless of category or entry type is an Individual entry.
• If your group has 20 or more people then you are eligible for a group discount, however you are still all individual entries.
• A group of less than 20 people are still individual entries and need to enter individually online or via entry form.
Corporate Challenge Division
• You are still entered individually and all have individual placing’s recorded, but you are also linked under a corporate name. A minimum of 5 people and no maximum is required.
• For the Corporate Challenge Trophy – the top 5 placing’s from any of your corporate entries will be used to determine your group placing.
• All members of the Lone Star Corporate division must be employees, relatives, partners of, contractors or suppliers to the company.

13+ for the Tough Guy & Gal Challenge
Each event has limited places available, so make sure you enter early to avoid disappointment as these events sell out! We will advise on the website when an event sells out.
Wellington – Numbers are limited to 1000 competitors
Palmerston North – Numbers are limited to 2000 competitors
Hamilton – Numbers are limited to 1000 competitors per day
Auckland – Numbers are limited to 2000 competitors per day
Hawkes Bay – Numbers are limited to 2000 competitors
Rotorua – Numbers are limited to 2000 competitors per day
What to wear
It is compulsory to wear covered in shoes during the event. You will get wet and muddy. A dry set of clothing, beanie and jacket is highly recommended following your event. Football or Rugby boots with molded studs are acceptable, running spikes or boots with aluminium studs are not permitted.
There will be hot showers available at all venues so bring a towel!
Every Competitor Receives
Each competitor will receive a Loaded sports drink, “I Survived” Souvenir coffee mug, sponsor products in your goodie bag, electronic timing, a downloadable certificate and a chance to win one of the major spot prizes.
If you enter at least three weeks before your event you will receive your very own personalized bib number.
Hot showers, parking and first aid support are included in your entry fee.
Food and Drinks
Hot food and beverages will be available from the venue for purchase – please bring cash as most places will not have Eftpos facilities.

2016 marks the 14th year that the Tough Guy & Gal Challenge has been running. Murray Fleming started the event in 2003, at Off Road NZ in Rotorua. 432 competitors took on the challenge, which was a total mud pit! Word got out how about the event and in it’s second year, numbers doubled. After three years at Off Road NZ, we were in need of a bigger venue (and more parking!) This was when the event was moved to Lakes Ranch in Tikitere, and numbers continued to grow. In 2009, an Auckland event was added at Ti Papa Equestrian Centre in Manukau. 2010 called for a change of venue in Auckland, and the addition of a second event. Woodhill Equestrian Centre, North of Auckland provided a bigger venue and an awesome course. The Palmerston North event was also added in 2010 at Linton Army Camp which offered an army style Tough Guy & Gal Challenge. By 2011, both Rotorua events sold out so a third one was added! 2012 saw 7 events across the North Island including a new one at Camp Wainui, Wellington. In 2013 there were 14,000 competitors over the 7 events. A Secondary School Challenge was also added to the Auckland venue, and was NZQA approved. 2014 saw 18,000 competitors across 5 venues and 11 events, including Hawke’s Bay. The calendar also included four Secondary School events and a new Junior Tough Guy & Gal Challenge across 4 of the venues. 2015 saw the event expand to Hamilton, which was a sell out. The Junior event was expanded to Palmerston North and Hamilton. The 2016 series will see 9 events across 6 venues, 7 junior events across 6 venues (2 in Hamilton) and 6 secondary school events across 4 venues. Organisers are expecting over 20,000 competitors. We can’t wait to share this awesome experience with you all!
